Fit does NOT mean healthy.

Fit-vs- Healthy

Physical Fitness is comprises by two related concepts: general fitness (a state of health and well-being), and specific fitness (a task-oriented definition based on the ability to perform specific aspects of sports or occupations). Physical fitness is generally achieved through correct nutrition, exercise, and enough rest.

Healthy is defined by the level of functional or metabolic efficiency of a living being. In humans, it is the general condition of a person's mind, body and spirit, usually meaning to be free from illness, injury or pain .

Many athletes and weekend warriors spend their time getting in shape and becoming fit for a specific sport but do not pursue a healthy lifestyle with the same commitment as they do their training. The American way of “more is better’, is what will eventually cause the body to become sick, stressed and eventually injured. These problems are what evolve when there becomes a imbalance between health and fitness.

The commonality of overtraining may result in short term improvements in performance. But will often prove to be detrimental in the long run.  Causing a imbalance of the brain, nervous and hormonal systems. Not to mention a increase in chronic inflammation.  Improper dietary habits will not only excel this process.  But can contribute to heart disease and increased risk of death. Primarily due to atherosclerotic coronary artery disease (clogged arteries).

It is extremely important that we not only keep fit but we need to watch what we consume dietary wise and keep a positive mindset as well. By creating a healthy life style such as; eating right (see nutrition 101), training smart, taking time to relax and mentally watching your thoughts. We will begin to gain a strong and healthy body that will fortify our internal energy systems and nourish the body down to a cellular level for many years to come.
